The skin is the single largest organ of the human body. Caring for it is not a matter to be taken lightly. Healthy, well-treated skin is attractive and a source of self-esteem. Taking care of this great big organ is really a matter of simple little tasks – here are just a few of them.

You should limit the amount of sun exposure you get each day. If you’re going to be out in the sun for a prolonged period of time make sure you wear some type of protection. Prolonged sun exposure can lead to a variety of problems like premature wrinkles, sun burn, freckles, and even skin cancer.

Keep your skin well moisturized by applying lotion liberally every time you get out of the shower or bath. The moisture that seeps into your skin during baths and showers is lost quickly if not sealed in with a good moisturizer. A good rule of thumb is to put on lotion within 5 minutes of drying off.

To keep your skin younger looking and more healthy, opt for using self-tanners and lotions instead of sitting out in the sun, or going to an indoor tanning salon. Whether it is natural or artificial sunlight, the UVA and UVB rays are still damaging to your skin. You can get that same look in the safety of a self-tanning cream or lotion without the damaging side effects.

To keep your youthful glow exfoliate your skin daily with a wash cloth or other textured cloth. In addition you should exfoliate with a sea sponge or exfoliating cleanser once a week. Removing the old, dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin allows the new, softer skin cells underneath to be seen.

The healthiest thing you can do for your skin is to wear minimal makeup, or no makeup at all. Putting foundation on your face, day after day, coats your skin in chemicals that have to be washed off at the end of the day. Many women, in an attempt to look younger, continue to wear foundation in an unattractive way. You can often get better results only applying foundation in strategic areas so that your face breathes better. Study your face in the mirror and apply foundation only to the red or darker areas. Blend carefully and leave the rest as is. Step back and see if you don’t look better already. Better yet, take the plunge one day and try going commando with no makeup at all, or with only moisturizer and lipstick. You won’t believe how freeing it will be, or how much time you will save.

The suns rays are at their highest from 10am to 2pm. Avoid direct sun exposure during these hours, by wearing a sunscreen or protective clothing. The harmful rays from the sun will prematurely age your skin and make you appear older than you actually are. Reversing these affects can be difficult to do later.

There are several plant hormones that can help keep your skin looking healthy and help to give you a healthy, youthful look. Most of these are vegetable estrogen and applied over an extended period of time. These hormones have been shown to cause your skin to look much healthier and maintain its youthfulness.

Here are a few great techniques to reduce the symptoms of eczema. First, eczema sufferers should avoid products that contain perfume. Wearing only clothing made of cotton is one more helpful tip. Fabrics like wool or synthetics like rayon could worsen your eczema. Use a makeup that is natural. If you follow these tips, you should be able to reduce the risks of irritating your skin.

Eating a nutritious diet can help you prevent a lot of common skin problems and will also help you look and feel your best. A diet filled with lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy, and whole grains is what your body and your skin needs. To take care of your skin and minimize the signs of aging, focus on eating a healthy diet and your skin will thank you.

If you have chapped lips and use lip balm, make sure this is washed off at the end of the day when you go to bed. Lip balm usually contains mineral oil, which can lead to acne if it runs on your face overnight. Wash your full face, including your lips before bedtime.

When considering your daily skin care routine, remember that less can be more. When applying moisturizer, it is not necessary to use a huge amount to achieve the perfect results. Consistent use is the key. Check your tube or bottle for the correct amount to use. Use upward strokes to apply gently to your skin.
